Maintaining a regular vaccination & de-worming schedule for your pet is very important as some diseases are canine/human transferable. We always supply our buyers with their puppy's health records (vaccinations & de-wormings that have already been administered, what was given, & the date) as well as a schedule to follow. I recommend taking the health records to the vet for review. If your vet recommends a different schedule than the one we provide, always follow your vet's recommendation. Here is the schedule we follow:

De-worming with Pyrantel Pamoate at age 2 & 4 weeks.        De-worming with Safeguard or WormX at age 6, 9, 12, & 16 weeks.     7-way vaccinations, including Leptospirosis, at age 6, 9, 12, & 16 wks. Rabies at age 4 months. You can be a few days late with shots & de-wormings, as your schedule allows, but remember, if you are late for one set, you need to be a few days late with the next set to avoid having shots & de-wormings too close together. Booster shots need to be given at 2-4 wk intervals with 3 wks being the median. We include Leptospirosis in our puppy shots because of where we live. We are rural & Lepto is carried in deer & rodent urine so when our older dogs go out into the pasture for exercise or to work cattle, swim in the pond, etc, we don't want them to track thru animal urine & bring disease back to the puppies in the kennel. This would be detrimental to our breeding program. 7-way's are not recommended by some vets for young puppies as they could have a reaction to the shot including the Lepto virus but we feel it is important because of where we live & have never had a puppy have a reaction to this particular shot. The 5-way may be better suited for some puppy owners or breeders that are not located in rural areas. Vaccinations are available over the counter at a minimal cost from most farm & ranch stores. We give our vaccinations under the skin down on the shoulder, not the nap of the neck, because if the injection site happens to abcess, it will be able to burst open & drain itself down on the shoulder. If a 7-way & Rabies shot are given at the same time, we give one shot in each shoulder, not the same injection site.

After age 4 months, de-worming is recommended every 3 months & annual vaccinations & rabies beginning at age 12 months.

I will be happy to answer any questions from OUR buyers or their veterinarian's regarding our schedule. Call or text Laura Perry at 918-706-1931 or email fifteenacrefarms@yahoo.com. *****DO NOT buy from a breeder that does not provide you with a written shot record & schedule to follow & DO NOT call us or another breeder that you didn't buy the puppy from asking what the vaccination schedule should be.*****

All vaccination & de-worming supplies are available over the counter if you opt to administer them yourself but annual vet visit's are still recommended for optimum health. I buy my vaccinations, de-wormer, & vitamins online from Revival Animal Health. WormX is now available over the counter & kills BOTH types of tapeworms.

We proudly feed Science Diet, Iams, Eukanuba, & Purina Pro Plan. The main ingredient in each of these dog foods is chicken, beef, or lamb. The ingredient listed first on the bag is the highest percentage of the contents inside. The main ingredient should not include anything other than chicken, beef, or lamb or please consider feeding another brand of dog food. Each of the 4 foods listed above have promotional offers on their websites including free dog food & coupons, some for $5 off. You will get more pounds for your money in bags that say "coupons inside" or "bonus bag" especially if they are already on sale AND you have a coupon printed off from their website. Also look for sales at Petsmart & sign up for a Pet Perks card. It's free & you get a coupon for a free toy on your pets birthday plus other coupons.

Our adult females receive the best in prenatal & postpartum care with a daily vitamin supplement given year around. Our male dogs are supplemented daily with Ark Naturals vitamins. Our puppies are supplemented daily with Nutrical from birth until around 3 weeks of age & canned Iams, Eukanuba, or Science Diet & Jersey cow's milk 3-4 times daily from age 2-1/2 wks to about 6 weeks of age in addition to mama's milk & dry puppy food. Supplementing puppies several times daily helps them get nutrition from other sources, besides mama, & really aids in not dragging the females down postpartum. The mommies tend to look better, feel better, & recover quicker postpartum when babies are supplemented.

Flea & tick control have been a HUGE problem here on the farm but I think we finally found a product that works. Carbaryl is a pesticide that is safe for dogs, puppies, fruits, & vegetables. Carbaryl is the same active ingredient in 7 Dust but 7 Dust only contains 5% Carbaryl. If you buy the bag labeled Carbaryl, you will see that it contains 10% so it is a stronger dose. During prime flea & tick season ... spring, summer, early fall ... I dust each dog once every 7-10 days. In winter once monthly is sufficient unless there is an outbreak in the hay. A bag cost about $7 in the lawn & garden center & a half bag treats all of my dogs effectively. For dogs that spend alot of time in the water, I only dust their topline. Whats left on my fingers goes on the face & inside the ears. Armpits are a huge hiding spot for ticks as are the pads on the bottom of the feet & in between toes. Tweezers work best for removing ticks. You may need 2 or 3 applications to notice a big difference. You can also dust their favorite shady spot for napping in summer & the hay in the dog house in winter.

I like the plastic snap together dog houses. They can easily be taken apart & bleached every week or two. I find them on www.craigslist.com. In winter, I empty the hay as it gets wet from rain & snow & can mold & mildew, bleach the empty dog house, rinse well with the garden hose, & put fresh hay down as needed, usually monthly. Wooden dog houses harbor bacteria & rot & fall apart. I like the aluminum dog food bowls from the dollar store the best. They are $3 & last a long time plus they can be bleached every week for cleanliness. For my dogs that love the water I buy Tuff Stuff 25 gallon stock tanks. They are black so be sure not to set them in direct sunlight. For dogs that don't spend time in the water I buy the hard plastic 6 gallon horse tub feeders in blue, green, & red. These are good for puppies as well from about 8 weeks of age on & can be bleached weekly for cleanliness.

Fencing is a big priorty for me as I do not confine my animals to a small space. The most cost effective way to get more fenced square footage for your money is the 2"x4" no climb wire set on fence posts with a prefabbed 2"x4" wire gate. These items can be found at your local farm & ranch store. No climb wire is much stouter than chainlink & more cost effective.
