Our Facilities
Built in July 2006. Designed by Laura Perry, constructed by Kevin Perry. We are very proud of our facilities & the environment we raise our puppies in. We know our dogs are content & enjoy being comfortable. They are exercised daily for many hours in one of our 6 yards, 3 that measure 115' x 33-1/2' & 3 that are about 1/4 acre, as well as exercising out in the pasture. They also enjoy regular participation in obedience & livestock training, regular grooming, & playing ball, as well as receiving proper medical attention, if needed, & regular vaccinations & de-wormings to ensure their continued health.
Our kennel is completely shaded with three 10' x 10' pens on the southside. There are 4 pens each on the east & west sides, for a total of 8, that are 4' x 10' with each run having indoor access to a 4' x 3' box for whelping & raising puppies. The indoor boxes are covered in chicken wire so each box can receive airflow from a fan in the summer & warm air from a heater in the winter. Our westside indoor boxes are filled with 6-8" of hay in the winter & the end doors on the westside are propped open so the dogs can come & go as they please, indoors or out, to stay warm. We place gunny sacks over the openings to block the cold air & we cover the north side of the kennel to block the wind. Heating pads & heat lamps are used to keep puppies warm on the eastside & newspapers are used for clean fresh bedding at all times. We also keep hay for warm bedding in the dog houses in the other 6 yards that do not have access to the kennel. In the spring, the gunnysacks & north covering are taken down & hay removed & the east side of the kennel is partially covered to block the sun & keep puppies shady & cool. Our dogs are only confined to pens when they are in heat, having puppies, need to be fed separately, when we have visitors, or the lawn is being maintenanced. The rest of the time, they enjoy free exercise in one of the yards, lounging on the porch or under a shade tree, & running & playing with one another in one of our yards. While raising puppies, our mommies enjoy free access to their babies & the yard while their door is propped open & they can go in & out of the kennel with their babies as they please. One buyer commented that we provide a "maternity resort" for our dogs.
Our puppies are whelped in the kennel in one of the indoor whelping boxes, or in the house during inclement weather. For about the first 2 weeks they just eat & sleep & stay in the whelping box with clean fresh bedding several times per day & being handled & loved. When they start toddling around at about 2 weeks of age, they are moved to one of the southside pens during the day to toddle & nap in the sunshine & play with one another & discover the outside world, weather permitting. Then they are moved back to a pen with indoor access at night. Beginning at about 5 weeks of age, the puppies begin spending their day in a pen on the ground &, again, move back to the kennel at night for a pen with indoor access.

Fenced Front Yard - 1/4 acre
This picture was taken from the covered back porch. The first yard is a fenced 1/4 acre. The dogs love to lay on the backporch in the shade. The furthest yard is a fenced 1/2 acre where the kennel sits. The doors are propped open on the kennel so the dogs have free access to go inside if they choose.

Southwest side looking northeast. The extra plywood at the top on the south side is for additional shade from the sun in the summer & is taken down for winter so these three large pens are warm & sunny in winter.

Front Yard 1/4 fenced acre with plenty of shade & sunshine.
East side looking west. The plywood on the east side is for extra shade in the summer. We take it down in October so extra sunlight reaches the pens.
Fans are a must in addition to large tubs of cool water.
Each inside box measures 4'x 3' allowing plenty of room for whelping or just laying around in front of the fan.
